Musicmatch Jukebox supports mp3PRO, the MP3 successor from Coding Technologies New technology cuts filesize in half Nuremberg, June 13, 2002 - Coding Technologies has won another important supporter for its audio compression standard mp3PRO: Musicmatch Jukebox, one of the most popular PC applications for the creation, management and playback of digital music is now offering mp3PRO support in its latest version 7.2. Users can play mp3PRO-encoded files in optimum quality and can also create mp3PRO files which offer the same audio quality as MP3 files at 40 to 50% smaller file size. With the superior quality and benefits of mp3PRO, Coding Technologies has convinced one of the most important players in the MP3 arena: Musicmatch Jukebox has more than 25 million registered users, 15 million of which use the software regularly. The software combines powerful features for the creation, replay and management of digital music including direct interfacing to CD burners and portable MP3 players. Musicmatch also operates RadioMX, a successful subscription streaming service integrated into the Musicmatch Jukebox. The mp3PRO support enables Musicmatch Jukebox users to create audio files at roughly half the bitrate of current MP3s. This is achieved by using Coding Technologies' groundbreaking Spectral Band Replication (SBR) technology: Using SBR, mp3PRO can create hifi-quality files at a bitrate of around 64 kbit/s - MP3 requires around 128 kbit/s for the same audio quality level. Nevertheless, mp3PRO remains compatible with MP3. mp3PRO allows to store twice as many songs on a given storage medium - an interesting feature even on PCs, despite inflationary hard disk sizes and an important feature in portable players with much more limited storage capacity. Another important field of application for mp3PRO is streaming of music via the Internet because of the ability to transmit higher quality sound in the same channel bandwidth. That's why Musicmatch is already using mp3PRO in their RadioMX service for quite some time. "Musicmatch is focused on delivering music fans the most innovative technology and the best listening experience," said Christopher Allen, senior vice president of product marketing at Musicmatch. "We're excited to now offer Musicmatch Jukebox customers support for mp3PRO, the highest quality audio technology available." "Musicmatch is another competent partner for the proliferation of mp3PRO and we are glad to have them on board," said Martin Dietz, CEO of Coding Technologies. "This is another important milestone in the introduction of the next-generation MP3 standard." Musicmatch
Jukebox adds to a variety of audio applications already offering mp3PRO
support. These include the audio editing software Cool Edit Pro 2 by
Syntrillium, mp3 maker Platinum from MAGIX, My mp3PRO 3.0 from Steinberg
and the CD burning software Nero v5.5 from Ahead Software. A complete
