Products from Coding Technologies are omnipresent in the digital broadcasting landscape across all major systems and standards and integral parts of DVB, DMB, MediaFLO, Digital Radio Mondiale, ISDB, XM Satellite Radio, and HD Radio. Their commercial efficiency by technical superiority make them the first choice for all platforms, from satellite, to terrestrial, to cable, to IPTV.

In cooperation with DTS, Coding Technologies and the pioneer in multi-channel audio introduced the aacPlus/DTS transcoder solution, combining an aacPlus decoder and a DTS encoder to reside in a consumers set-top-box. This powerful combination allows an easy adoption of aacPlus even for surround sound broadcasting and maintains backwards compatibility to existing home A/V receivers, as well as highest audio quality.

Delphi XM SKYFi RadioaacPlus gained its first commercial success with XM Satellite Radio. Over a given transponder bandwidth, aacPlus allowed XM Radio to offer more channels at a higher quality than the competing Sirius Radio system which uses the proprietary PAC codec from Lucent.

Digital World TravelleraacPlus was also selected by Digital Radio Mondiale, the only international open standard for terrestrial digital broadcasting in the long, medium/AM und short wave bands. Already in 2004, Coding Technologies introduced the 'Digital World Traveller', world's first USB radio receiver for Digital Radio Mondiale, at the Internationale Funkausstellung in Berlin. Even before the finalization of the Digital Radio Mondiale standard in 2003, Coding Technologies developed together with its partners the DRM2010, the first consumer grade receiver.

MPEG Surround, standardized in July 2006, hit digital TV broacasting in October 2005 with a real-world DVB-T broadcast at the "Medientage München". Combined with the audio codec Layer-2, MPEG Surround delivered multi-channel 5.1 audio to capable receivers, without significantly increasing the bit rate, and without simulcasting stereo and multi-channel audio. Of course, standard DVB-T receivers continued to play back stereo as usual, from the identical bit stream!

Kenwood KD C722 HD RadioiBiquity Digital, the US based developer and licensor of HD Radio technology, has identified the enabling character of Coding Technologies' SBR for its In-Band-On-Channel Digital Audio Broadcast system for AM and FM in the United States. In an outstanding example how SBR can fundamentally enhance the efficiency of any audio codec, iBiquity adopted SBR for integration into its HDC codec to achieve highest audio quality even at lowest bit rates.

In October 2004, Coding Technologies and Orban debuted HDC Surround, the backwards compatible 5.1 multichannel solution for HD Radio. Combining the powerful MPEG Surround technology with the SBR enhanced HD audio codec, HDC Surround delivers 5.1 channel surround sound while maintaining audio quality and compatibility for stereo-only receivers.

This heritage has brought credibility for Coding Technologies' products in the open standards world of digital satellite, terrestrial, cable and IPTV broadcasting. As operators look to enhance their services with more channels or with high-definition, the efficiency of our products gives them more options to either consolidate audio bandwidth to make room for more video or to layer more audio services like multi-lingual and 5.1 surround.

Since Spectral Band Replication (SBR) is being added to the MPEG-2 standard as well, operators have the flexibility to use aacPlus within the MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 context as desired.
